“The personal is political; therefore, therapy is political.”
When I was younger, I could have benefited from therapy myself. I didn’t often have the language to describe what I was feeling. Words like “emotional,” “procrastinator,” “perfectionist,” or “sensitive” were often how I and others described me. What I later learned (at age 25) was that I have ADHD. Suddenly, my entire life made a lot more sense! This is just one of many motivators for me as a therapist. As someone who’s been on both sides of therapy, I know just how sacred the therapeutic relationship is. My ultimate goal is to help others better understand their emotions and behaviors in an affirming environment.
While I work with a variety of clients and issues, I primarily work with LGBTQIA+ adolescents, teens, and young adults who are struggling with an eating disorder/disordered eating behaviors, emotional dysregulation, identity work, & religious deconstruction. My work is rooted in body neutrality and Health at Every Size® ideals. I believe that we are life-long learners; therefore, I am continuously trying to grow my understanding and ensure that I am providing trauma-informed, social justice-informed, decolonized, affirming care.
I have extensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and often use it in my practice as a framework for how our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors interact with each other & your environment. I also examine how societal, cultural, and political causes and solutions play a role in the struggles you face. I'll utilize other modalities and techniques as needed for your treatment.
This journey through life is not meant to be taken alone. I look forward to working with you!
